Car 1:
- Cut a sheet of balsa wood into a 23.25cm by 9cm rectangular sheet, using the table saw.
- Using the hand saw cut a 5cm by 3.5cm rectangle out of the back of the 22cm by 9cm rectangular sheet.
- Using the drill press to drill two holes at the front of the sheet on the bottom of the wood. It should be 1cm from the front and a quarter cm from the side. They should be symmetrical and make sure not to drill completely through.
- Using the drill press, drill two more holes at the back of the sheet on the bottom of the wood. The holes should be 1cm from the back and a half cm from the side. They should be symmetrical and make sure not to drill completely through.
- Using the hand drill, drill two screws in the middle of the car in the center of the wood, 9cm from the front on the top of the wood, making sure not to go completely through. The holes should be 1.5cm apart.
- Glue two Lego support attachments into the front two holes with polyurethane adhesive. Make sure the supports line up.
- Wait 3 hours.
- Glue the second two Lego support attachments into the back holes with polyurethane adhesive. Make sure the supports line up.
- Wait 3 hours.
- During the three hour waiting periods build the two axles and engine.
- To build the back axle take one Lego bar and connect a Lego bar connector to it. On the other bar put the 0.75cm diameter gear on it.
- For the front wheels attach the 1cm long Lego pegs to them, the wheels should move freely.
- For the engine of the car make a Lego bar with both the 3.5cm in diameter gear and the 1cm in diameter gear on it. On the outside of the gears put the two flat Lego bar connectors.
- Also using the drill press, drill a hole in the 2cm by 6.5cm rectangular blocks of balsa wood. The hole should be 1cm from the back and in the center of the wood. Make sure not to drill through.
- Procedure 10, 11, 12, and 13 are interchangeable.
- Attach front wheels to the front Lego support attachments.
- Connect the back axle in between the Lego support attachments.
- Attach wheels to the ends of the back axil.
- Screw one of the 2cm by 6.5cm blocks of balsa wood to the back of the car with the hole facing across the car’s rear, using a 1.5cm long screw.
- Screw the second balsa wood block at the same time as attaching the engine of the car into the holes of the blocks, using the 1.5cm long screw.
- Glue and screw the flat Lego bar connectors to the blocks of balsa wood, using the 0.5cm long screws.
- Wait for three hours.
- Attach the elastic band and it’s ready to go.
Car 2:
- Cut a sheet of balsa wood into a 24.5cm by 7.5cm rectangular sheet, using the table saw.
- Using the drill press, drill two 1cm deep holes on the front sides of the sheet, 1.5cm from the front.
- Using the hand drill, drill a screw into the center of the top of the wood, 8.5cm from the front of the car.
- Using the drill press, drill a hole in the center of the metal bar.
- Also, using the drill press, drill 2 hole at the ends of the metal bar and in the inside part of the 6cm in diameter wheels, so they line up.
- Glue the 11cm by 0.5cm blocks with the holes in the end closer to the back of the car, on the back edges of the car, using carpenters glue.
- Wait for three hours.
- Line up and glue the 2.5cm by 1cm blocks to the end edges of the 11cm by 0.5cm blocks, using carpenters glue.
- Wait for three hours.
- Line up and glue the 7.5cm by 1cm blocks to the front edges of the 11cm by 0.5cm blocks, using carpenters glue.
- Wait for three hours.
- In between the 2.5cm by 1cm blocks and the 7.5cm by 1cm blocks glue the 2 nuts, using the polyurethane adhesive. The nuts should fit into the rectangular holes in the 11cm by 0.5cm blocks.
- Wait for three hours.
- Slide the metal bar through the nuts.
- Glue the 1.5cm long pin into the central hole, using the polyurethane adhesive. There should be a 0.5cm part of it sticking out of the bar.
- Wait for three hours.
- Slide the washers onto the ends of the bar.
- Slide the wheels onto the ends of the bar and line up the holes, refer to step 4.
- Glue the 0.5cm long pins into the lined up, using the polyurethane adhesive. This should secure the wheel to the bar.
- Wait for three hours.
- Glue the two 2.5cm long Lego pegs into the front holes, using the polyurethane adhesive.
- Wait for three hours.
- Attach the two 3.5cm in diameter front wheels.
- Attach the elastic and it’s ready to go.
